AFC Signs Four-Year Partnership with IBIA to Combat Match-Fixing

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has strengthened its efforts to protect football in Asia by signing a four year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Betting Integrity Association. This is a big step in the fight against match-fixing and irregular betting in the region.

Real Time Data to Help AFC Investigate

Under the agreement the AFC and IBIA will work together to detect suspicious betting patterns and irregular activity in football matches.

The IBIA will provide the AFC with real time data on suspicious betting activity through its Monitoring and Alert Platform to help the AFC investigate potential match manipulation faster.

Andrew Mercer, General Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs for the AFC, highlighted the organization’s mission to uphold the highest ethical and sporting standards:

“We are committed to preserving our key tenets of fair play and integrity.”

He emphasized that collaborating with global organizations like the IBIA is crucial in the fight against match-fixing, ensuring that football in Asia remains free from unethical practices for the benefit of all stakeholders.

IBIA’s Role in Safeguarding Asian Football

Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, acknowledged the importance of this partnership, stating, “Cooperation is a vital part of any effective integrity monitoring and investigatory framework.”

He added that IBIA’s global customer account activity, which oversees over $300 billion in sports betting annually, will be a valuable resource in safeguarding the AFC ecosystem.
