ambleAware’s Q1 Donations Reflect Ongoing Support as UK Prepares for Statutory Levy

GambleAware reported donations of £294,722.99 in research, prevention, and treatment contributions for the first quarter of the 2024/25 financial year, as the UK gambling sector moves closer to implementing a statutory funding model.

Quarterly Contributions and Historical Patterns

The contributions received between April and June 2024 align with historical trends, where the first quarter usually generates a smaller share of annual donations compared to year-end contributions.

In addition to the standard donations, GambleAware received a one-time £40,000 regulatory settlement, further enhancing its funding for gambling harm reduction initiatives.

Voluntary Model Nearing Its End

This fiscal year is likely to mark the end of the voluntary funding approach, with a statutory levy expected to take effect next year.

Under the current voluntary system, gambling operators contribute a minimum of 0.1% of their Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) to GambleAware.

Smaller operators with GGY below £250,000 are encouraged to contribute at least £250 to support harm prevention efforts.

Significant Donors and Their Contributions

Several notable donations were recorded in Q1, including contributions from Star Racing (£27,547.37), ProgressPlay (£24,346.68), Virgin Bet (£21,753.00), Postcode Lottery (£20,000.00), and Welcome Break (£19,300.00). These contributions play a vital role in maintaining support for GambleAware’s initiatives.

CEO’s Emphasis on Continuity

GambleAware CEO, Zoe Osmond highlighted the need for continued funding amid the transition to a statutory levy, noting, “As we transition to the new system it is essential that funding is maintained at the same level as previous years to ensure there is no disruption to prevention and treatment services for gambling harm.”
