ASA Ireland and GRAI Partner to Streamline Gambling Ad Complaints

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) of Ireland has announced a partnership with the newly established Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) to enhance the management of complaints regarding gambling advertisements.

Promoting Transparency and Consumer Protection

Under this partnership, the GRAI will handle complaints related to advertising by licensed gambling entities, ensuring compliance with Ireland’s Gambling Regulation Act 2024.

The ASA, on the other hand, will oversee all other advertising complaints, including those involving unlicensed operators.

“The GRAI, once established, will protect the public by promoting a gambling sector that operates transparently and in accordance with the laws of Ireland, particularly the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. This Act contains a number of restrictions on licences in relation to advertising, social media and more. It will also create awareness of problem gambling and establish safeguards to address it”, said Anne-Marie Caulfield, Chief Executive of the GRAI.

Caulfield noted that the GRAI would work alongside the ASA to ensure swift and effective resolution of public concerns about gambling advertisements, in line with established advertising standards.

Shared Commitment to Responsible Advertising

“We are delighted to partner with GRAI, a new organisation that will help to safeguard the public from problem gambling, particularly protecting children from accessing places or services where gambling activities are offered. The aim of the Advertising Standards Authority is to ensure that advertisements are legal, decent, honest and truthful for consumers”, highlighted Orla Twomey, Chief Executive of ASA Ireland.

Twomey further emphasized the importance of collaboration to protect vulnerable audiences, particularly minors, and to provide easy access to information about responsible gambling advertising.
