Australia Blocks More Illegal Online Gambling Sites
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has instructed internet service providers to block additional illegal gambling websites found to be operating in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. The latest enforcement effort brings the total number of blocked sites to over 1,170 since the initiative began in 2019.

Increased Efforts to Combat Illegal Gambling
ACMA’s latest action targets two online gambling platforms, Crown Slots and Billy Billion, which were found to be operating unlawfully. Website blocking is a key tool used by the regulator to protect Australian consumers from unlicensed gambling services that lack proper oversight and player protections.
Since ACMA began enforcing stricter gambling regulations in 2017, approximately 220 unlicensed operators have withdrawn from the Australian market. The regulatory body continues to monitor and investigate offshore gambling services that accept Australian players without authorization.
Risks for Players Using Unlicensed Platforms
ACMA has issued a warning to consumers that even if an online gambling site appears legitimate, it may not offer essential customer protections. Players who engage with illegal operators face financial risks, including potential loss of funds and lack of dispute resolution mechanisms. The authority encourages users to verify whether a wagering service is licensed via its official register.
To assist the public, ACMA provides resources on its website, including guidance on identifying illegal gambling operators and steps to report unlicensed platforms. Consumers concerned about unauthorized gambling sites can file complaints through ACMA’s official channels.
