BetStop Welcomes 4.5K New Users in Q1, Lifetime Exclusion Remains the Top Choice

BetStop, Australia’s national self-exclusion register, has released its official statistics for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025-2026, revealing that the program continues to grow. According to the data, 4,541 new users registered with BetStop in Q1, bringing the total number of users since its launch in August 2023 to 49,382.

Lifetime Self-Exclusion Remains the Most Popular Choice

The most notable trend highlighted in the report is that lifetime self-exclusion continues to be the most popular option among users. This option remains a top pick for individuals seeking to limit or stop their gambling habits permanently. The scheme’s success is reflected in the ongoing trend, as 31,838 users still have active exclusions as of September 30, 2025. However, a portion of users, 17,544, had either completed their exclusion periods or opted to cancel their exclusions earlier.

Geographic Breakdown of New Users in Q1

The first quarter of the fiscal year 2025-2026 saw an encouraging distribution of new registrations across Australia, with the number of people choosing self-exclusion in various states reflecting a broad interest in the program. New South Wales emerged as the region with the highest number of new users, accounting for 1,485 registrations. Close behind, Victoria also saw a significant uptake, with 1,147 new participants signing up for the service.

In Queensland, 934 individuals joined the program, while Western Australia followed with 461 new registrants. Smaller states, such as South Australia, reported 297 new users, and Tasmania accounted for 124. Even the Australian Capital Territory saw 62 new registrations, indicating that the program is resonating across the entire country.

These numbers are in line with the previous quarter’s trend, where 4,720 new users registered for the self-exclusion scheme. This consistency suggests that BetStop’s reach and awareness are steadily growing across all regions, providing Australians with the tools they need to manage and address gambling-related issues.

Demographics of BetStop Users

BetStop also shared insights into the demographic makeup of its user base. Nearly half (48%) of those registering for self-exclusion were aged 30 or younger, signaling that gambling-related issues affect younger adults significantly. The 31-40 age group accounted for 31%, while the 41-50 group made up 13% of registrants. Older age groups, including the 51-60 and 60+ groups, represented smaller portions of the user base, with 5% and 3%, respectively.

Self-Exclusion Period Choices

When it comes to the length of self-exclusion periods, 39% of users opted for a lifetime exclusion, showing a strong preference for permanent cessation. 38% chose exclusions ranging from 3 months to 2 years, and 18% selected a 3-month exclusion. A smaller group, about 4%, opted for a 2-5 years exclusion, and just 1% chose to exclude themselves for 5+ years.

With BetStop’s continued growth, the program is helping to ensure that Australians who wish to control or stop their gambling habits have access to a reliable, confidential support system. As the program evolves, it is clear that lifetime self-exclusion will remain a crucial tool in combating gambling-related harm.
