Björn Fuchs Named New Chair of VNLOK as Helma Lodders Steps Down
After more than three years at the helm of the Vergunde Nederlandse Online Kansspelaanbieders (VNLOK), Helma Lodders has announced her departure as chairman. Her term, which is set to end shortly, will not be extended. The VNLOK board has unanimously appointed board member Björn Fuchs as her successor, effective May 1.
Lodders shaped VNLOK in a pivotal era
Helma Lodders played a key role in shaping VNLOK ahead of the regulated launch of the Dutch online gambling market. Under her leadership, the association developed into a trusted dialogue partner for political institutions, regulators, media, and social organizations engaged in gambling policy.
In addition to representing the interests of licensed operators, Lodders was instrumental in bringing attention to the scale of the illegal gambling market, raising it as a priority on both political and public agendas.
Reflecting on her tenure, Lodders stated:
“Since VNLOK’s founding, I’ve taken great pride in serving as chairman. It was a period marked by political and societal turbulence, but I remained focused on our core goal: creating a safe, reliable, and controllable market with proper care for vulnerable players. Now that my term has come to an end, it’s time to pass the baton. I thank my fellow board members for their trust and have full confidence in Björn Fuchs as my successor.”
Board appoints Fuchs with unanimous support
Fuchs, who brings extensive industry experience through his role as Chief Digital Officer at Fair Play Casino, was nominated by the board and unanimously confirmed as the new Chair. He will combine his VNLOK leadership duties with his current executive position at the casino group.
Commenting on the transition, Fuchs said:
“I regret the departure of Helma Lodders. The board is grateful for the way in which, with her skills and strength, she has given substance to our association with integrity. The board therefore expresses its appreciation for Helma’s efforts since its inception.”
Looking ahead to his new position, he added:
“I look forward to my new role as chairman of VNLOK with pride and confidence. I will get to work with great enthusiasm and, together with the members, will work for the importance of a well-regulated online gambling market.”
