Unibet’s journey began in 1997 when Anders Ström founded the company in London, initially operating from his residence in Earl’s Court. In 1998, the company secured a UK betting license, enabling it to accept wagers via telephone. The following year, Unibet launched its first online betting platform, marking its entry into the digital gambling arena.

The year 2000 marked a significant expansion as Unibet Group Plc was established, obtaining an international gambling license in Malta. This strategic move facilitated the company’s growth across Europe, with the website being relaunched in 2001 to support 12 languages, catering to a global audience. ​

In 2004, Unibet’s rapid growth led to its listing on the NASDAQ OMX Nordic Exchange in Stockholm, reflecting its solidified position in the online gambling industry.
