China Cracks Down on Cross-Border Gambling
Chinese law enforcement intensified its crackdown on cross-border gambling in 2024, arresting over 11,000 suspects linked to 45 major cases. Authorities shut down thousands of illegal gambling platforms and disrupted financial networks, reinforcing strict measures against overseas gambling operations targeting Chinese citizens.

Authorities Dismantle Gambling Networks
The Ministry of Public Security investigated 73,000 cases related to cross-border gambling and associated crimes last year. Police dismantled over 4,500 online gambling platforms and blocked underground financial networks used by overseas syndicates.
Officials focused on eliminating recruitment networks that lured Chinese citizens into overseas gambling. They also targeted financial channels that facilitated cross-border transactions, limiting the flow of illicit funds.
Blacklist Restricts Gambling-Linked Travel
China continues to enforce a blacklist of international destinations linked to cross-border gambling. The restrictions, introduced in August 2020, limit outbound group travel to locations promoting gambling tourism.
The latest measures show China’s commitment to preventing illegal gambling. By disrupting recruitment efforts, financial networks, and travel incentives, authorities aim to reduce access to cross-border gambling.
