Danish Gambling Revenue Soars Online Casino Fuels Growth

Denmark’s gambling sector experienced a significant revenue jump in November reaching DKK654m (€87.6m) primarily due to online casino gaming.

Online Casino Sector Dominates Revenue Gains

The online casino sector was the main catalyst for the overall revenue increase generating DKK295m a substantial 17.9% rise year-on-year.

Slots were the dominant force within this sector accounting for over three-quarters of the revenue significantly outperforming other games like blackjack roulette poker and bingo.

This highlights a strong player preference for the accessibility and variety of online slot games.

Sports Betting and Land Based Sectors Show Modest Increases

Sports betting revenue saw a minor increase of 0.3% year-on-year reaching DKK232m with the majority of bets placed via mobile devices at 65.4%.

Land-based slot revenue also experienced a slight rise of 1.9% totaling DKK95m with gaming halls contributing the majority of this revenue.

Land-based casino revenue saw a small increase of 0.8% to DKK31m reversing a previous downward trend.

New Regulations Enhance Clarity and Responsibility

The Danish gambling regulator Spillemyndigheden has implemented new certification requirements for game suppliers.

By mid-year suppliers must submit their own annual regulatory compliance reports instead of relying on operators to file reports on their games.

This change aims to improve clarity and accountability by assigning independent responsibilities to both operators and suppliers.

The new process is active with a six-month transition period until July.
