Denmark’s ROFUS Register Exceeds 60,000 Self-Exclusions
More than 60,000 individuals in Denmark have now enrolled in the national self-exclusion register for gambling, with young men accounting for the vast majority. The latest figures mark a sharp rise in the use of ROFUS and reflect growing public engagement with responsible gambling tools.

Record Number of Users Registered with ROFUS
On 1 May 2025, Denmark’s self-exclusion platform ROFUS surpassed 60,000 registered users. First launched in 2012 with fewer than 1,500 sign-ups in its inaugural year, the system has steadily expanded to become one of the key public health instruments in the country’s gambling regulation landscape.
Operated by the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden), ROFUS enables individuals to voluntarily block themselves from participating in all forms of licensed gambling in Denmark. This includes online gambling platforms, physical betting shops, and land-based casinos.
Young Men Under 40 at the Forefront
The demographic profile of ROFUS users points to a distinct trend: young men are increasingly taking steps to self-exclude. According to the Gambling Authority, 58% of male registrants are under the age of 40. Among individuals under 20, 96% of registrants are male.
The data suggests that gambling-related harms are being recognised early, especially among younger populations. In response, Danish authorities have concentrated on targeted messaging and educational efforts aimed at youth. One such initiative is the campaign titled “Take it easy with ROFUS,” which encourages reflection and informed decision-making around gambling.
Part of ROFUS’s growing appeal lies in its flexibility. Users can opt for short-term exclusions lasting from 24 hours to six months, or choose a permanent self-ban. The latter can only be lifted after at least one year, following a formal request process.
“It is gratifying that those who need to exclude themselves from gambling are using ROFUS. This shows that awareness of the tool is growing and that it fulfils an important function in the effort against gambling addiction”, commented Anders Dorph, Director of the Danish Gambling Authority.
The surge in ROFUS registrations coincides with a period of robust performance in Denmark’s gambling sector. In April 2025 alone, gross gaming revenue grew by 11.6% year-on-year to DKK 665 million (approximately $103 million).
