Flutter Raises £357,000 for Cure Leukaemia to Advance Clinical Trials
Flutter Entertainment has raised £357,000 to support Cure Leukaemia, a UK-based charity focused on blood cancer research. The funds will help finance clinical trials and expand the Aticus network, a vital infrastructure providing innovative treatments to patients across the UK.
Funding Innovative Treatment Through Aticus Network
The Aticus network, which connects 15 UK hospitals, is pivotal in providing access to advanced treatments for blood cancer patients.
With an annual operational cost of £1 million, the network’s scope is expanding this year to include children, offering new hope to families in need of cutting-edge medical care.
Fundraising Culminates in Charity Ball
Flutter’s fundraising efforts, which spanned the year, culminated in the Flutter Charity Ball at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
Hosted by ITV Racing presenters Ed Chamberlin and Oli Bell, the event raised an impressive £282,000. The gala was attended by notable figures, including sports personalities and charity ambassadors, who contributed to the event’s success.
Personal Stories Highlight Impact of Donations
Ambassadors such as George Lineker, son of former footballer Gary Lineker, shared moving personal stories, including his own survival of acute myeloid leukaemia as a baby.
Families like Jo and Jim Hawkridge also spoke about how Cure Leukaemia-supported clinical trials saved their son’s life, providing a powerful testament to the initiative’s impact.
Statements from Key Supporters
Steve Birch, Chief Commercial Officer of Sky Betting & Gaming, highlighted the significance of the fundraiser:
“The charity ball is always our biggest fundraising event, and every year our colleagues and partners never disappoint as they come together to raise money for well-deserving causes. I’ve visited the Christy Research Centre in Manchester, one of 15 centres that Cure Leukaemia supports, and saw firsthand the importance and impact of the funds raised.”
Birch also emphasized gratitude for the generosity of the event’s attendees, whose contributions ensure continued progress toward finding a cure for blood cancer.
Part of Flutter’s Positive Impact Plan
This initiative aligns with Flutter’s broader Positive Impact Plan, which aims to improve 10 million lives worldwide by 2030.
Earlier this year, the plan saw the establishment of the Flutter Foundation in Spain, which focuses on promoting inclusion and supporting disadvantaged communities.
