Gambling Awareness Trust Seeks New CEO as Pam Bergin Departs
The Gambling Awareness Trust in Ireland is searching for a new CEO. This follows Pam Bergin’s announcement that she will be leaving the position in the coming weeks.

Bergin’s Tenure and Background
Pam Bergin has served as CEO of the Gambling Awareness Trust since October 2019. The charity focuses on funding gambling addiction counselling, prevention, education, research, and awareness services across Ireland.
Before joining the Trust, Bergin had extensive experience in the nonprofit sector, including roles as Manager of the Portlaoise Family Resource Centre and Development Worker with the Laois County Childcare Committee.
Key Developments During Her Leadership
The Gambling Awareness Trust was established in 2019. A significant development during Bergin’s tenure was the passage of the Gambling Regulation Bill in October 2024, which had been initially introduced in 2022. This bill represents a major shift in the Irish gambling landscape.
Bergin announced her departure via LinkedIn, stating: “After five thoroughly enjoyable years I will be leaving the Gambling Awareness Trust in a few weeks time. It’s been a fantastic experience.”
Bergin’s Reflections on Her Time
In her LinkedIn post, Bergin reflected on her time as CEO, noting the challenges and rewards of the role.
She said, “I still remember the excitement & trepidation I felt as I embarked on the role of CEO in 2019 tasked with addressing an area that had been totally overlooked in our society for so long. There’s been highs & lows & lots of learning! All invaluable insights along the way that I will remain grateful for.”
She also expressed gratitude for the people she worked with, stating, “I’ve met some of the most amazing people, those in active gambling addiction, those in recovery, family members who were kind enough to share their experiences with me in an effort to help others.”
Impact and Future Outlook
Bergin highlighted the impact of the charity’s work, saying, “I’m leaving with the knowledge that thousands of people have been supported through the wide range of services we established, all of whom continue to respond to the growing need in our communities with the highest standards of care. That’s a good feeling.”
The Gambling Awareness Trust now begins its search for a new leader to continue its mission in Ireland.
