GGPoker Launches “Face Off” Campaign Featuring Comedian Johnny Vegas

GGPoker has unveiled a new UK campaign titled Face Off, fronted by comedian Johnny Vegas. The initiative combines humor with poker’s competitive spirit, offering exclusive videos, social experiences, and daily freeroll tournaments designed to bring back the game’s human and entertaining side.

A Playful Take on Poker Promotion

Johnny Vegas, known for his appearances in Benidorm, Ideal, and QI, leads the new GGPoker campaign set to air across YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), talkSPORT, and television. The project blends comedy with poker storytelling, reflecting GGPoker’s effort to make the game feel more social and engaging.

As part of the rollout, GGPoker is hosting £2,000 daily Face Off Freerolls. One of the opening videos features Vegas – whose real name is Michael Joseph Pennington – playing against another person with the same name. The humorous setup nods to GGPoker’s use of real names on high-stakes VIP tables, reinforcing the platform’s emphasis on authenticity.

Angela Martin, Head of Marketing for GGPoker UK & Ireland, said the project was designed to remind players what makes poker special.

“With ‘Face Off,’ we wanted to remind people why they fell in love with poker in the first place. It’s not just about the cards; it’s about the tension, and the moments of genius (or madness) that make it such a uniquely human game.”

“Johnny Vegas is not just a legend of comedy, his name says it all. It brings a touch of Vegas flair to the UK poker scene, while keeping it witty and completely human. ‘Face Off’ is our way of saying that poker should be fun, social, and full of personality again. This is GGPoker doubling down on the UK and on the players who make the game what it is,” she added.

Personality and Connection Drive Modern Poker Marketing

GGPoker’s partnership with Vegas reflects a broader trend in poker marketing, where authenticity and humor increasingly replace traditional high-stakes narratives. The campaign arrives as other major brands, including the World Poker Tour, embrace similar approaches.

The WPT recently announced its Creator Championship with Creator Television, featuring well-known online personalities such as King Bach, Wengie, Daphnique Springs, Soy, and Jenny Lorenzo.
