Indonesia Takes Aggressive Stance Against Online Gambling
Indonesia has launched an intensive campaign to eradicate online gambling, dismantling over 380,000 gambling-related websites within a month. The initiative is part of a broader strategy by the newly formed government to combat illegal activities in the digital space.
Massive Website Shutdowns in a Short Period
In just one month, Indonesia has taken down 380,000 online gambling sites, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing the issue.
Since the establishment of an online gambling eradication task force on November 4, over 104,000 sites have been removed. This rapid progress underscores the country’s determination to eliminate illegal gambling from its digital ecosystem.
Targeting Financial Networks
Alongside website removals, authorities have targeted financial networks linked to online gambling. As of late November, 651 requests to block associated bank accounts have been submitted, resulting in the freezing of 7,500 accounts.
These measures involve collaboration between the central bank and payment service providers to ensure robust fraud detection systems are in place, aiming to disrupt the flow of funds related to illicit gambling activities.
Multi-Agency Collaboration
The multi-agency approach, initiated earlier this year under the previous administration, continues under the new government led by President Prabowo Subianto. By leveraging resources from various ministries and agencies, the nation is strengthening its capacity to tackle the complex challenges posed by online gambling.
