Ireland and Belgium Sign Agreement to Strengthen Gambling Regulation Cooperation
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Belgian Gaming Commission, establishing a formal framework for regulatory cooperation. This agreement aims to support closer collaboration between the two bodies as they carry out their respective oversight roles.

Formalizing Cross-Border Cooperation
Anne Marie Caulfield, CEO of the GRAI, signed the agreement alongside Magali Clavie, President of the Belgian Gaming Commission. The MoU sets out principles for collaboration and information sharing, with the goal of strengthening each regulator’s ability to fulfill its duties more effectively. Caulfield said:
“The Memorandum of Understanding with the Belgian Gaming Commission is a significant step in formalising the working relationship between Irish and Belgian gambling regulators. I would like to thank Magali Clavie, Steve Mees, and their colleagues for the support and advice they have given the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland in its formative phase.”
Belgian Support During Setup Phase
The Belgian Gaming Commission played a key role during the early development of the GRAI. According to the Irish regulator, the Belgian authority provided valuable advice and support during the setup phase, helping to inform GRAI’s operational foundations.
This agreement is the second in a series of MoUs the GRAI plans to establish with other gambling regulators across the European Union. These partnerships are intended to create stronger lines of communication and enable regulators to address shared challenges in the evolving gambling landscape.
