Ireland and UK Establish Gambling Regulatory Agreement

On April 2, 2025, the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) and the UK Gambling Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Dublin. This agreement aims to enhance cooperation between the two regulatory bodies, focusing on areas such as compliance, monitoring, and enforcement to improve oversight in both regions.

Formalizing Collaboration

The MOU outlines a framework for cooperation, detailing principles that aim to strengthen regulatory practices. During their meeting, leaders from both organizations discussed critical areas relevant to their jurisdictions, including strategies for compliance and enforcement.

This agreement is the first in a series of MOUs that GRAI plans to establish with other European gambling regulators. By fostering these partnerships, GRAI seeks to build a network of cooperation across Europe, improving consumer protection and regulatory efficiency.

Advancing Unified Efforts

“This Memorandum of Understanding with the UK Gambling Commission is an important step in formalising the working relationship between the two regulators and I would like to thank Andrew Rhodes, and a number of his colleagues across the various areas of the Commission for their advice and support over the past number of months. Ireland and the UK share many of the same operators and gambling practices, so putting this agreement in place will enhance our ability to share information and discharge our respective regulatory responsibilities effectively. Open dialogue and close cooperation between both jurisdictions is paramount and I greatly look forward to continuing this close cooperation for the years to come”, said Anne Marie Caulfield, CEO of GRAI.
