Jérôme Gallot Appointed Gaming Mediator for France’s National Gaming Authority
Jérôme Gallot has been appointed gaming mediator for the French National Gaming Authority (ANJ), with decades of experience in public service, consumer law and regulatory frameworks. His role will be to resolve disputes between players and gaming operators through voluntary and non-binding mediation.
Long experience in Public Service
Gallot’s appointment by ANJ President Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin reflects his background, he has been in public service since 1985, he started at the Court of Auditors and then moved to the Ministry of Economy and Finance. From 1997 to 2003 he was Director General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control, a position that made him an expert in consumer protection.
Outside of public service, Gallot has been CEO of Caisse des Dépôts and Veolia Environnement and founder of a consulting firm specializing in competition and consumer law. This broad experience gives him a deep understanding of regulatory and consumer rights frameworks.
Role of the Gaming Mediator
As gaming mediator, Gallot will mediate disputes between players and operators licensed by the ANJ or those who have exclusive gaming rights, such as Française des Jeux and PMU. His role will be to find amicable solutions so that players and operators can address their grievances in a structured and impartial way.
Mediation Process
Players must first submit their complaints in writing to the operator. If not resolved within 20 days they can escalate to the gaming mediator. Mediation is voluntary and non-binding but offers an alternative to legal proceedings by proposing solutions for mutual agreement.
ANJ data shows the extent of gaming disputes in France. In 2023, 1,523 mediation requests were made, 91% were for sports betting. But 752 were deemed inadmissible because players had not submitted prior written complaints to the operator.
