Bio

Career Background

Alejandro Tengco brings decades of leadership experience across both public and private sectors. Prior to leading PAGCOR, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Nationstar Development Corporation. During his time there, he oversaw major projects such as the restoration of the National Museum of Natural History in Manila. He also worked at the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), where he was Executive Assistant to the CEO and Head of Government Affairs.

His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Ateneo de Manila University, which he completed in 1982. He also pursued legal studies at the same university between 1982 and 1984. This blend of education in management and law informed his strategic approach to policy and administration throughout his career.

Alejandro Tengco Leadership at PAGCOR

Alejandro Tengco was appointed as Chairman and CEO of PAGCOR in August 2022. Under his leadership, the agency began a transition from casino operations to regulatory oversight. One of his primary actions involved closing non-performing Casino Filipino branches to streamline operations and reduce state involvement in gambling operations.

He also facilitated a public-private partnership with San Miguel Corporation to construct a new PAGCOR corporate headquarters in Pasay City. This project was intended to improve operational efficiency while reducing long-term real estate costs. In addition, Tengco supported policy initiatives aimed at revoking offshore gaming operator licenses, aligning with national efforts to reduce gambling-related crime.
