Augusta Dragić
Bio
Co-Founder of Superbet
Augusta Dragić co-founded Superbet in 2008 together with her husband, Sacha Dragić, at a time when Romania’s retail betting landscape was fragmented and underdeveloped. While he focused on strategy and investment, Augusta carved out a crucial role in shaping the organizational and cultural backbone of the company. As Chief Human Resources Officer, she played a hands-on role in structuring HR, legal, and compliance frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.
Under her guidance, Superbet expanded from a handful of retail locations to a multinational group with a presence in Romania, Poland, Belgium, Serbia, and more recently, South America. The company’s workforce grew to over 5,000 people, supported by technology hubs in Bucharest, Zagreb, and London—expansions made sustainable in large part due to Augusta’s focus on scalable talent systems and ethical corporate governance.
Beyond her operational influence, Augusta was appointed in 2022 to the Board of Directors of One United Properties, one of Romania’s most prominent real estate developers.
Architect of Superbet’s Social Responsibility Agenda
If Augusta Dragić’s contributions to Superbet’s growth are somewhat behind the scenes, her public role as president of the Superbet Foundation is impossible to miss. Launched in 2019, the Foundation has quickly become one of the most dynamic CSR platforms in the Romanian private sector. Its projects span health, education, community development, and, most notably, chess.
Through Augusta’s leadership, chess has become a central pillar of Superbet’s social strategy. What began as a sponsorship deal has evolved into a long-term commitment to the Grand Chess Tour, one of the most prestigious tournament circuits in the world. The Superbet Chess Classic in Bucharest now attracts elite players like Ding Liren, Fabiano Caruana, and Alireza Firouzja, with former world champion Garry Kasparov serving as the event’s ambassador.
But Augusta’s vision extends beyond elite competition. Her mission is to embed chess into the Romanian education system, positioning it as a tool for developing strategic thinking, patience, and mental discipline among children. Under her direction, the Foundation spends roughly €1 million annually on chess initiatives, including scholastic programs and community outreach events.
A Broader Commitment to Community
While chess garners the spotlight, the Superbet Foundation—under Augusta’s stewardship—also funds health and social welfare programs. It has contributed to the modernization of a wing at Fundeni Hospital, supported COVID-19 emergency responses, and financed initiatives for breast cancer detection and treatment.
In Poland, the Foundation has expanded into grassroots sports—including kayaking, volleyball, karate and darts—aligning with Superbet’s market footprint and reinforcing its community-first branding. Augusta’s consistent focus is on long-term value rather than one-off sponsorships. Her approach is strategic, not performative: investments are aimed at building institutional partnerships and sustainable programming.
Unlike many public-facing executives in iGaming, Augusta Dragić shuns the limelight. Her interviews are rare, and her media presence is modest. But when she does speak, her message is clear: business growth must be anchored in social value.
