Decade of Leadership at the BHA

Dunshea’s appointment to the top executive role began in January 2025, marking his latest promotion within the BHA where his tenure spans over ten years and eight months. His promotion to Chief Executive Officer followed a significant period as the Chief Regulatory Officer, a position he held from April 2018.

This senior regulatory role was preceded by his service as Director of Integrity & Regulatory Operations from October 2016 to April 2018. Collectively, these roles in London have provided him with an extensive and intimate understanding of the operational and integrity challenges facing British horseracing.

Regulatory Expertise and International Experience

Before his move to the UK and the BHA, Dunshea cultivated considerable experience in the racing sector in Australia. He spent seven years and eight months at Harness Racing Victoria, where he first served as General Manager – Integrity Services from August 2007 to July 2010, and subsequently stepped into the Chief Operating Officer role from July 2010 to March 2015.

This international experience, particularly his deep involvement in integrity and operational management, has been a foundational element of his career progression.

Education Supporting Industry Focus

Dunshea’s professional development is underscored by relevant academic pursuits. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Sports Law from the University of Melbourne, which he completed between 2009 and 2011. Further underpinning his foundational knowledge is a BA in Legal Studies, Law & Political Science from Victoria University, where he studied from 2004 to 2009.

This combination of legal and political science training, specifically applied to sports law, aligns directly with the regulatory and governance demands of his current leadership position in British horseracing.
