Neil Montgomery

Early Life and Education

Neil Montgomery is a dual national (British/Brazilian). He earned his LL.B. in 1996 and a Master’s Degree in International Law in 2002, both from the University of São Paulo’s School of Law.

Professional Career

Montgomery began his legal career at esteemed Brazilian law firms and later gained international experience as an associate at Richards Butler (now Reed Smith) in London, working in the Shipping, International Trade & Commodities, and Corporate Finance Departments.

In 2013, he founded Montgomery & Associados, headquartered in São Paulo with a presence in Rio de Janeiro and London. The firm introduced the “Lean Full Service – LFS®” model, where each lawyer specializes in multiple areas, ensuring lean and efficient teams.

Areas of Expertise

Montgomery’s practice encompasses corporate law, commercial contracts, international trade law, antitrust, employment law, cross-border litigation, aviation and shipping, insurance and reinsurance, IP/IT, media and entertainment (including betting and gaming), and real estate.

Industry Recognition

He is the only Brazilian qualified lawyer ranked in four categories by Chambers and Partners: Aviation, Corporate/M&A, Insurance, and Media & Entertainment. In 2022, Montgomery & Associados was awarded the INT-X Law Firm of the Year by Centuro Global.

Contributions to Gaming Law

Montgomery has played a significant role in shaping Brazil’s iGaming and sports betting regulatory landscape. His firm has been actively involved in discussions and analyses concerning the legalization and regulation of these sectors.

He is a member of the International Bar Association and has served as a Councillor of the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Brazil, chairing its São Paulo Legal and Tax Committee.
