As CTO, Donegan guides The Pools’ technological direction and implementation. He focuses on overseeing substantial projects with demanding timelines.
He manages diverse development teams, using their varied skill sets to deliver major, sophisticated, and business-critical digital assets. These include websites, applications, and mobile apps. This focus proves crucial for ensuring The Pools possesses the necessary advanced technology to maintain a competitive edge in the fast-paced online betting sector.
Career Marked by Innovation and Leadership
Donegan’s move to The Pools builds on a career foundation rooted in specialized software development and senior roles within the iGaming industry. He previously served as the Head of Software Engineering at Betfred for three and a half years, from January 2021 to June 2024. Before Betfred, he spent two years as the Development Manager at Sharp Gaming, working from January 2019 to January 2021.
A significant portion of his career included seven and a half years at Civica. Here, he advanced to the role of Development Team Leader (May 2013 to January 2019). He led a team that developed health sector products. These products included an application designed for prescribing support with real-time decision-making capabilities.
They also developed an inpatient drug administration product aimed at minimizing risk in a hospital environment. His work at Civica strictly adhered to the Agile/SCRUM methodology for iterative software production. He also spent nearly two years as a Senior Software Developer at the company.
Donegan began his professional career as a Software Engineer at Xerox (May 2008 to August 2011). He contributed to developing the company’s inaugural B2C product, myphotovita. He earned a Bsc(Hons) in Computer Science from The University of Salford. A patent, issued in April 2013, formally recognizes his technical innovation. The patent relates to a system and method for video episode viewing and mining.
