Education and Career Journey

Born in 1976, Shay Segev studied computer science at Tel Aviv University, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science in 2001. He later pursued an MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 2005. This education built the foundation for his success in global tech and business operations.

Segev’s career includes leadership roles in technology and gaming companies. He started as a computer engineer in the Israel Defense Forces, where he developed his technical and problem-solving skills. After his military service, he joined Comverse Technology in 1998, where he managed research and development for mobile messaging applications.

His expertise in business technology optimization led him to Mercury Interactive in 2004, where he served as Chief Technology Officer, focusing on IT industry solutions.

In 2006, Segev transitioned to Playtech, a leading gambling software company, where he became Chief Operating Officer of Videobet, a Playtech subsidiary. He later took on the role of COO for Playtech’s parent company and eventually led its retail division as CEO.

In 2015, he joined Gala Coral Group as Chief Strategy Officer, where he played a crucial role in developing and implementing the company’s strategic initiatives. A year later, he moved to GVC Holdings (now Entain), taking on the role of COO and driving major acquisitions, including bwin.party and Ladbrokes Coral.

His leadership also played a key role in forming BetMGM, a joint venture with MGM Resorts. In 2020, he became CEO of GVC, spearheading the company’s rebranding to Entain and introducing a new vision centered on growth, technology, and responsible gaming.

Leading DAZN

When Segev joined DAZN in 2021 as co-CEO (and later, sole CEO in 2022), he had one clear goal: transform DAZN into the global home of sports.

Since then, he’s been driving expansion, technology upgrades, and new business opportunities.

  • Growth and Acquisitions: Segev led the acquisition of ELEVEN Sports and Team Whistle in 2022, broadening DAZN’s content and global footprint.
  • Innovation: He’s making DAZN more than just a streaming service by integrating features like sports betting and e-commerce.
  • Premium Sports Rights: Under his leadership, DAZN continues investing in top-tier sports rights, enhancing its appeal to fans.
  • Expanding Markets: DAZN is growing in the Asia-Pacific region, including DAZN Japan, while strengthening its presence in Europe and North America.
  • Customer Experience: A key part of his strategy is ensuring users get the best possible experience, focusing on engagement and satisfaction.

Running a global sports streaming platform comes with its challenges. In 2023, DAZN reported a $1.4 billion loss, but Segev has stated that the company is now profitable in most of its top ten markets.

Looking ahead, he’s committed to evolving DAZN into a complete sports ecosystem, leveraging technology to create a seamless and immersive fan experience.

Shay Segev’s expertise in technology, strategic acquisitions, and business transformation has positioned him as a forward-thinking leader in sports entertainment. He continues to drive DAZN’s evolution; the platform is set to redefine how fans engage with sports.
