Lincoln City’s Dylan Duffy Fined £4,000 for Betting Violations
Lincoln City footballer Dylan Duffy has been fined £4,000 by the English FA for breaching football’s betting regulations. Duffy admitted to placing 30 bets on football matches, some of which involved his own team. Half of the fine has been suspended due to his cooperation and early admission of the violations.
Admission of Betting Breaches
The English FA has imposed a £4,000 fine on Lincoln City footballer Dylan Duffy for violating betting regulations. Duffy admitted to placing 30 bets on football matches between August 2023 and April 2024. Half of the fine has been suspended for 12 months due to his early admission of guilt and cooperation with the FA’s investigation.
Duffy initially claimed the bets were made by his younger brother, who lives in Ireland and is under 18. He explained that while he did not use the account himself, he allowed his passport to be used to open it. However, further investigation revealed that Duffy had placed additional bets via another account by phoning an unnamed individual, who placed the wagers on his behalf. Some of the bets involved matches in which Duffy’s team, Lincoln City, played.
Support from Sporting Chance
In light of these revelations, Duffy has been referred to Sporting Chance, a support service that assists professional athletes dealing with mental and emotional health challenges. The organization, founded by former Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams, aims to provide support in situations where emotional well-being and professional performance intersect.
This case is not an isolated one. In May, the FA suspended Sandro Tonali, a Newcastle United midfielder, for two months after he admitted to 50 betting-related violations, including placing bets on his own team.
