Marco Penge Suspended from DP World Tour for Betting Breach
English professional golfer Marco Penge has been banned from the DP World Tour for three months after breaching the PGA European Tour’s Integrity Programme. Penge admitted to placing bets on golf events, none of which involved himself or tournaments in which he participated.
Details of the Violation and Sanction
An independent disciplinary panel determined that Marco Penge had placed bets on various golf events, violating the Integrity Programme of the DP World Tour.
However, none of the bets involved himself or tournaments where he was a participant.
Penge received a £2,000 fine and a three-month suspension, effective from December 13, 2024.
He faces an additional one-month suspension if any further breaches occur within the next 12 months.
His suspension will end on February 13, 2025, allowing him to return to competition on the DP World Tour.
Integrity Not Compromised
The disciplinary panel concluded that the integrity of the affected events remained intact since Penge did not bet on tournaments in which he participated.
His immediate admission of the breach and full cooperation during the investigation resulted in a reduced sanction.
Betting Breaches in Sports
This case follows a similar incident earlier in December, when Ryan Rainey, a former League of Ireland footballer, was suspended by the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) for betting breaches.
Rainey’s violations included bets on games in Ireland between 2021 and 2024, as well as worldwide events in 2024, leading to a six-month ban.
