Martha Otton to Remain as iGaming Ontario Executive Director Until March 2025

Martha Otton, executive director of iGaming Ontario, has postponed her planned retirement to provide stability as the search for her successor continues.

Martha Otton Extends Tenure

Martha Otton, the executive director of iGaming Ontario, has agreed to extend her tenure until March 31, 2025, instead of retiring at the end of this year. The regulator confirmed the decision, highlighting her role in ensuring steady leadership during the ongoing search for a successor.

“Martha’s continuation in this role will ensure the agency’s steady leadership of Ontario’s competitive igaming market,” iGaming Ontario stated.

Otton was initially appointed in February 2021 to lead iGaming Ontario as part of the province’s initiative to establish a competitive regulated igaming market. Her retirement was previously announced in August but has now been delayed to aid in a smoother transition for the organization.

Q2 Market Report Highlights Growth

Licensed operators handled wagers totaling CA$18.7bn ($13.45bn), reflecting a 1.6% quarter-over-quarter increase and a 31.7% rise compared to the same period last year.

Gaming revenue for the quarter reached CA$738m ($530.72m), marking a substantial 35.4% increase over Q2 of 2023. The report also highlights the scale of the market, with 51 operators running 83 gaming websites. More than 1.32 million active player accounts were reported, with an average monthly spend of CA$308 ($221.45) per account.

Casino games, encompassing slots, live and computer-based table games, and peer-to-peer bingo, emerged as the largest segment of the market. These games accounted for CA$16bn ($11.5bn) in wagers and generated CA$553m ($397.56m) in revenue for the quarter.
