MGA Issues Warning Over False Licensing Claims

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has officially distanced itself from phlove.org, stating that the website is falsely claiming to hold a Maltese gaming licence. The regulator has issued a warning to consumers about the risks of engaging with unlicensed entities.

Regulator Denies Link to Website

In its recent announcement, the MGA clarified that it has no affiliation with the website phlove.org. The Authority emphasized that any claims suggesting that phlove.org holds a Maltese gaming licence are “false and misleading.”

The MGA urged the public to verify whether a company is authorised before using its services. It noted that the Maltese regulatory framework is designed to protect consumers by ensuring that licensed operators meet strict legal standards. Entities operating without a licence fall outside this framework and pose a risk to users.

Risks of Unlicensed Operators

According to the MGA, services provided by unauthorised companies lack regulatory oversight and consumer safeguards. “The activities of unlicensed entities are unregulated and do not provide the necessary safeguards delineated by virtue of the framework, making transactions with such entities risky for consumers,” the regulator stated.

The Authority reiterated the importance of checking the legitimacy of gaming providers through its official channels. Consumers can confirm whether an entity is licensed by consulting the register of authorised operators available on the MGA website.
