New Leadership at Slovakia’s Gambling Authority Amid Market Growth and Regulatory Shifts
Gambling Regulatory Authority (ÚRHH) has appointed a new Director General. As of April 1, 2025, Jana Mravíková has taken over the role, replacing Martin Bohoš, who stepped down at his own request to focus more closely on regulatory functions within the authority.

Jana Mravíková Appointed Director General
Jana Mravíková brings internal experience to her new role, having previously served as the Slovakia Director of the Economics and Operations Department. She replaces Martin Bohoš, who voluntarily left the position of Director General to concentrate on the regulation of gambling activities. Mravíková’s promotion marks a strategic internal transition as the authority navigates rising market volumes and evolving risks.
As presented by Bohoš, in 2024 Slovak players placed bets totaling €24.2 billion, with payouts reaching €22.8 billion. This left a net gambling spend of €1.45 billion – up 9.6% from the previous year. The gambling industry contributed €347.3 million to the state budget, a year-on-year increase of €45.8 million. For comparison, gambling tax revenue stood at €251.9 million in 2022.
Record Year for Gambling Activity in Slovakia
According to outgoing Director General Martin Bohoš, online casinos continue to dominate:
“Internet casinos continue to hold the largest share of the market, recording a 29.9% year-on-year increase in revenue to almost €476 million, while state budget levies increased by 35.1% to €126 million. ”
The Gambling Office expects land-based gambling revenues to decline in 2025 due to stricter municipal-level regulations. Officials warn this trend may push more users toward illegal markets. In response, the authority plans to implement tighter oversight and develop more effective measures to combat unlicensed operations.
The authority’s priorities remain clear: strengthening player protection, eliminating illegal operations, and ensuring the stable development of Slovakia’s licensed gambling market.
