Philippine Operators Turn to Encrypted Apps

Online gambling operators in the Philippines are turning to encrypted messaging and e-commerce platforms after new restrictions cut off their access through local e-wallet services. The move highlights how companies are adapting to stricter financial controls.

Operators Seek Alternatives

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ordered e-wallet providers to block direct access to gambling services. Major platforms removed gaming links within their apps, leaving operators to look for other ways to connect with players. Encrypted messaging applications have become a preferred channel, while e-commerce platforms are also being used to facilitate customer reach.

These changes mark a shift in how operators interact with their user base. The adjustments are happening quickly as companies attempt to minimize disruption for regular users. At the same time, the transition raises questions about how long such workarounds can remain effective.

Regulators Step Up Oversight

Lawmakers stressed that limiting access through payment apps is only one step in addressing gambling concerns. Authorities introduced biometric verification and transaction limits to further tighten control over financial activity linked to betting. Officials also suggested that a government-owned bank could eventually handle gambling transactions exclusively.

Industry stakeholders now face a landscape where digital restrictions are shaping the direction of online gaming operations. Regulators continue to emphasize that reducing accessibility is central to their strategy. For operators, the new requirements mean balancing compliance with the need to sustain customer engagement.
