Scientific Games Secures WLA Responsible Gaming Re-Certification
Scientific Games has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible gaming with renewed certification from the World Lottery Association (WLA). This recognition follows an international audit of the company’s responsible gaming practices across its global operations.

Re-Certification Confirms Adherence to Industry Standards
Scientific Games first achieved WLA certification in 2015, initially for its European operations. Since then, the company has consistently met the association’s standards, securing multiple re-certifications. The latest accreditation follows an independent audit that examined key areas such as responsible gaming research, employee training, advertising policies, and regulatory engagement.
A pivotal element of the company’s responsible gaming strategy is its Healthy Play programme, which offers lotteries a suite of tools, educational materials, and compliance resources. Introduced in 2022, Healthy Play played a central role in Scientific Games receiving global certification, reinforcing its dedication to player protection.
“Scientific Games has championed best-in-class integration of responsible gaming research and tools into online platforms. This reflects a thorough understanding of the company’s responsibilities as a gaming supplier committed to harm minimisation and ethical gaming practices”, said Mélissa Azam, Senior Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for WLA.
Potential Joint Bid for Italy’s National Lottery
Beyond its responsible gaming initiatives, Scientific Games is reportedly exploring a major expansion opportunity in Italy. The company is said to be in discussions with Flutter Entertainment and private equity firm Brookfield for a joint bid on Italy’s national lottery licence.
While details remain unconfirmed, the bid would involve collaboration with Sisal, Flutter’s Italian lottery brand. The application deadline for the licence is set for March 17, 2025, and if successful, the partnership could strengthen Scientific Games’ foothold in one of Europe’s largest lottery markets.
Strengthening Global Lottery Partnerships
Scientific Games continues to expand its presence in international lottery markets. The company recently secured a 10-year contract with the New Mexico Lottery and maintains long-standing partnerships with major European operators, including FDJ in France and Allwyn, the UK’s national lottery licence holder.
“We are dedicated to advancing our Healthy Play programme so that we can continue to give our lottery customers tools and best practices to strengthen the impact of their responsible gaming efforts by cultivating greater public trust”, stated CEO Pat McHugh.
