Singapore Police Take Over Blocking of Illegal Gambling Websites

Starting January 1, 2025, the Singapore Police Force has taken charge of blocking illegal gambling websites. This responsibility was previously managed by the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA).

GRA’s Message to the Public

The GRA expressed gratitude to the public for their support in curbing illegal gambling activities. In its statement, the regulator said:

“Thank you for your contributions in reducing the harm caused by illegal gambling websites.”

The GRA emphasized the ongoing importance of public cooperation, adding:

“From 1 January 2025, the Singapore Police Force will take over the blocking of such websites. Your role remains vital in keeping Singapore safe.”

Significant Achievements in Blocking Illegal Websites

Since 2015, over 3,800 illegal gambling websites have been blocked in Singapore.

Furthermore, the regulator reported that more than 145,000 payment transactions linked to illegal gambling activities, totaling SGD37 million (US$27.2 million), had been intercepted.

Legislative Framework for Gambling Regulation

The regulation of illegal online gambling falls under the Gambling Control Act, enacted in August 2022.

This legislation coincided with the establishment of the GRA, which replaced the Casino Regulatory Authority and broadened its regulatory scope.
