Sky Bet Ends #RequestABet Service on X After Nearly a Decade
Sky Bet has officially discontinued its #RequestABet service on X, bringing an end to an interactive betting feature that had allowed users to propose unique wagers since 2015. While similar betting options remain on the company’s website, Sky Bet’s X account will no longer monitor user requests.
Service Discontinued on X Platform
Sky Bet announced that its #RequestABet service, previously active on X (formerly Twitter), will no longer be available.
While some similar services are accessible on the operator’s website, the X-based service has been fully discontinued. According to Sky Bet, “Our #RequestABet service is no longer available. This inbox is no longer actively monitored, so we are unable to respond to messages or requests through this channel.”
The operator apologized for the inconvenience and directed customers to SkyBetHelp for any assistance.
Sky Bet Retires Popular Feature
The #RequestABet feature, conceptualized in 2012, responded to the increasing number of customer requests for unique betting options that weren’t available at the time.
The service officially launched in 2015, allowing bettors to propose specific wagers, making it a popular choice for sports fans seeking tailored betting options.
Over the years, the service became iconic in its own right, offering an interactive and user-driven betting experience.
Decline in Popularity and Strategic Shift
Interest in the #RequestABet service has gradually declined, leading Sky Bet to pivot its focus. Alun Bowden, senior vice president of strategic insight at Eilers & Krejcik Gaming, suggested that Sky Bet’s integration with Paddy Power may have prioritized the promotion of bet builders over maintaining the #RequestABet feature.
Bowden commented, “It was organic, often mispriced, even more often horrific value, always fun to bet on and felt like something that was interactive and more like a game than a sports bet. It changed how people THINK about betting. And now instead we have… bet builders.”
A Shift from Interactive to Structured Betting
Bowden, reflecting on the end of #RequestABet, remarked that the service was a nostalgic part of an era when gambling felt more interactive and less structured.
He noted that while bet builders offer a streamlined option, they lack the playful and spontaneous nature of the original #RequestABet experience. “It changed how people THINK about betting,” Bowden noted, emphasizing the cultural shift within the industry.
