Spanish Online Gambling Revenue Hits Record €1.45 Billion in 2024
Spain’s online gambling market recorded its strongest year to date in 2024, with gross gambling revenue (GGR) reaching €1.45 billion — a 17.6% year-on-year increase, according to new data from the country’s regulator.

Strong Performance in Casino and Betting Segments
The report from the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) shows that Spain’s online gambling sector is growing faster than the European average. While the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) reported a 5% increase in Europe-wide GGR to €123.4 billion in 2024, Spain’s digital market grew more than three times as fast.
Online casino games and sports betting were the primary drivers of Spain’s digital gambling growth. Online casino revenue rose by 17% to €730.7 million, while betting revenue surged by 23.8% to €608.9 million.
Slots continued to dominate the casino vertical, generating €472.2 million — up 22.8% year-on-year. Live roulette followed with €208.8 million, and non-live roulette brought in €24.9 million.
The betting segment likely benefited from major sports events, including the UEFA Euro 2024 and anticipation around the Paris 2025 Olympics. Live betting generated €285.1 million (up 24.1%), while pre-match betting closely followed with €284.7 million. Other forms of betting contributed €32.3 million.
Online bingo also recorded strong growth, increasing by 23.8% to €14.9 million. In contrast, poker revenue declined by 5% to €100.1 million. Within poker, tournaments accounted for €73.6 million and cash games for €26.4 million.
Contests saw the sharpest decline, with revenue falling by 98.5% year-on-year to just €7,057.
Player Activity and Spending On the Rise
The number of active online gambling players in Spain rose by 21.7% in 2024, reaching 1.9 million. Active accounts grew by 26% to 3.8 million, while the average number of monthly active accounts climbed 23.5% to 1.4 million.
Deposits totaled €4.58 billion (up 19.6%), and withdrawals reached €3.15 billion (up 19.7%).
Operators significantly increased their marketing budgets in 2024, spending €526.3 million — a 30.4% year-on-year jump. Bonus payments grew at a similar pace, rising by 30.8% to €261.5 million. These increases come amid a partial reversal of Spain’s restrictive 2022 advertising decree, following a Supreme Court ruling that softened marketing limitations.
