Spelinspektionen Bans MRSL NV for Targeting Swedish Market

The Swedish Gaming Authority (Spelinspektionen) has issued a ban against MRSL NV, citing the company’s brand for targeting the Swedish market without the necessary license.

Investigating MRSL NV’s Activities

Spelinspektionen’s investigation revealed that MRSL NV’s gambling website featured information in Swedish and accepted Swedish kronor (SEK) as currency. Additionally, MrSloty offered customer support in Swedish and did not implement any measures to prevent Swedish players from registering or creating accounts.

These findings led Spelinspektionen to conclude that MRSL’s MrSloty brand was actively targeting the Swedish market, thereby offering unlicensed gambling to local players.

Despite MRSL’s website claiming operation under master license 8065/JAZ, Spelinspektionen could not verify the country of origin or the jurisdiction from which the license was issued. The Swedish regulator attempted to contact MRSL but received no response, further prompting the decision to enforce a ban.

Spelinspektionen’s Ongoing Efforts for a Regulated Market

The decision to ban MRSL comes in the wake of a recent enforcement wave where Spelinspektionen banned four other operators: Samiland, Santeda International, Bigskin Trading, and Gamevio. These operators, according to the regulator, were involved in offering illegal skins gambling and targeting the Swedish market without the required licenses.

Spelinspektionen employs a comprehensive list of indicators to determine if an unlicensed website is targeting the Swedish market. These indicators include:

  • Offering deposits and withdrawals in SEK
  • Using a .se domain
  • Providing information in Swedish
  • Including conditions for participation from Sweden
  • Offering FAQs or customer support in Swedish
  • Displaying contact information with a Swedish phone number
  • Marketing to Swedish consumers
  • Collaborating with a Swedish payment provider
  • Using an e-identification system commonly used by Swedish customers

Spelinspektionen’s Role in Market Regulation

Spelinspektionen’s mandate is to oversee the regulated gambling market and guide players towards licensed operators, thus contributing to the overall market health. The regulator’s decisions, including the reasons for banning specific operators, are publicly available on its official website.

In other developments, Spelinspektionen recently announced its intention to continue its legal battle with Zimpler, appealing the Court of Appeal in Jönköping’s decision to revoke the regulator’s earlier cease order. This ongoing legal fight underscores the authority’s commitment to maintaining a controlled and fair gaming environment in Sweden.
