Spelinspektionen Strengthens Anti-Money Laundering Guidance
Spelinspektionen, the Swedish gambling authority, has released updated guidance and a new risk assessment concerning money laundering and terrorist financing. This action follows a reported increase in gambling industry reports to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIPO).

Rising Reports Prompt Updated Guidance
The updated guidance and risk assessment address the rising number of reports from the gambling industry to FIPO.
Spelinspektionen aims to provide further clarification on anti-money laundering (AML) measures.
The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has also supported the EU’s anti-money laundering package.
Collaboration and Preparation for FATF Review
Spelinspektionen actively worked on money laundering issues in 2024. This preparation was in anticipation of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) review.
The authority also participated in EU preparatory work for the new EU Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) and upcoming EU regulations.
Advisory Talks and Inter-Agency Cooperation
Throughout the year, Spelinspektionen delivered talks advising on money laundering risks within the gambling industry. Accounts and companies could potentially be used for illegal activities.
The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, the Swedish Economic Crime Authority, and the Swedish Financial police assisted Spelinspektionen’s efforts.
Director General’s Statement
Spelinspektionen Director General Camilla Rosenberg said: “The gambling industry is a risk area for money laundering, and we have seen a need for further clarification and guidance in this area. We have therefore revised our guidance and are also conducting a new risk assessment.”
