Stake Launches Passkey Login for Faster and Safer Player Access
Stake has introduced passkey login across its platform, becoming one of the first global iGaming operators to adopt the passwordless technology. The move aims to simplify user authentication while significantly improving account security.

Moving Beyond Traditional Credentials
Passkeys represent a distinct shift from legacy authentication systems that rely on memorized passwords and one-time codes (OTPs). The new feature allows users to access their accounts by leveraging device-level authentication methods such as biometric verification – using a fingerprint or facial ID – or a simple device PIN. By eliminating the reliance on a single, vulnerable secret, this system is inherently more robust against common cyber threats.

One of the key advantages of this transition is the strong mitigation of phishing attacks. Because a passkey uses a cryptographic key pair that is uniquely tied to the service and securely stored on the user’s device, it cannot be intercepted or phished in the same way a traditional password or OTP can.
This fortified defense is particularly critical in the high-stakes iGaming environment where account takeovers are a constant threat. Industry data from early passkey adopters outside of gaming highlights this security uplift, with PayPal previously reporting a 70% decrease in account takeovers after implementing the technology.
Player Security and Convenience
Commenting on the rollout, Andrew Forte, Head of Product at Stake, stated:
“In an industry where trust and security are paramount, the move to passkey was an obvious next step. We’re setting a new benchmark for player protection and convenience, removing password risk and proving that the most secure experience can also be the easiest.”
The change is expected to have a practical impact on sign-in times. Data from Google suggests that passkey logins take around 15 seconds, while password-based access can take twice as long. Stake processes over 100 billion bets annually, including during live play, where speed and responsiveness are critical.
Stake confirmed that the feature was launched in mid-September and will gradually become available to all users via their account settings. The company positioned the initiative as part of its broader strategy to strengthen security while ensuring smoother gameplay for its international customer base.
