Streamer fined for promoting unlicensed gambling in Denmark via Twitch

A streamer has been fined DKK 10,000 for repeatedly promoting unlicensed gambling operators through Twitch, following a police investigation prompted by the Danish Gambling Authority.

Unlicensed promotion detected on Twitch

content creator using the live-streaming platform Twitch has accepted DKK 10,000 (approximately €1350) fine for promoting game providers that lacked authorization to offer gambling services in Denmark. The streamer was found to have advertised these operators multiple times on their Twitch channels, thereby breaching Danish gambling laws.

The Danish Gambling Authority spotted the violations in 2023. It found that the streamer repeatedly highlighted unlicensed operators. After gathering evidence, the Authority reported the case to the police. Spillemyndigheden stated:

The streamer has in several cases advertised game providers without Danish license through his Twitch channels,”

Twitch, widely used for broadcasting gaming and gambling content, does not itself offer gambling services, but individuals can use the platform to direct viewers to external gambling sites – which, in this case, were operating without Danish license.

Fine issued based on regulator’s recommendation

Following its investigation, the police concluded that the streamer had indeed violated Danish gambling legislation. The DKK 10,000 fine aligns with the amount proposed by the Gambling Authority.

This marks the second instance in which the Danish regulator has successfully pursued case against streamer for promoting unauthorized gambling operators.
