Sweden Bans Satoshi Gaming Group Over Unlicensed Operations

Sweden’s gambling regulator has permanently barred Satoshi Gaming Group NV from offering its services in the country, citing the company’s failure to obtain proper licensure. The decision marks another step in the regulator’s efforts to close regulatory loopholes and curb illegal online gambling.

Regulator Targets Unlicensed Activity

Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s gambling authority, confirmed that Satoshi Gaming Group was found to be operating within the Swedish market without the required national licence. The company, which develops crypto casino and sportsbook platforms, has now been formally excluded from conducting any gambling activities aimed at Swedish players.

According to the regulator, the ban followed an investigation into the group’s activities and a determination that its operations violated Sweden’s gambling legislation. The decision reinforces Spelinspektionen’s commitment to tightening control over market access and removing unlicensed actors.

Authorities Respond to Growing Concerns Over Unlicensed Operators

The enforcement comes amid a broader regulatory clampdown in Sweden. In February, the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) formally asked the Ministry of Finance to revise the Gambling Act. The request focused on a legal gap that, according to BOS, enabled offshore operators to target Swedish consumers without oversight.

Just a month later, a report published by AB Trav och Galopp (ATG) emphasized the growing influence of unlicensed betting platforms in the country. The findings pointed to a sustained black-market presence and urged the government to implement stronger preventive measures.

In response to rising concerns, Spelinspektionen released a detailed report in April outlining steps to address the legal shortcomings highlighted by BOS. The report mapped out the accessibility and reach of the online black market in Sweden, and proposed legislative adjustments aimed at reinforcing national enforcement capabilities.
