Swedish Gambling Authority Denies Data Breach Allegations

The Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s gambling regulator, has firmly refuted claims of a data breach, specifically addressing allegations made in the “Kasinoläckan” documentary.

Spelinspektionen Denies Allegations of Player Data Leakage

The Swedish Gambling Authority has publicly denied any data breach or leaked information, directly responding to claims made in the “Kasinoläckan” documentary, which aired on P1 radio.

The documentary suggested a data leak had exposed the hidden gambling industry, allowing Swedish gambling addicts to lose millions at banned online casinos. The Spelinspektionen has stated that it has found no evidence of any data breach or leaked information from its self-exclusion register, Spelpaus.

Spelpaus Data Security and Encryption

The authority clarified that all information on the Spelpaus register is encrypted, ensuring the privacy of its users. The Spelinspektionen emphasized that the register does not contain information about whether an individual is a gambling addict, nor does it store addresses or phone numbers.

This encryption and limited data storage are designed to protect user information. The authority also stated that it is aware that some players on Spelpaus are still receiving marketing from illegal sites and are actively investigating this issue.

International Investigation of Journalists

The “Kasinoläckan” documentary is part of an international collaboration with investigative journalists in several countries, supported by the Investigative Journalism for Europe (IJ4EU) fund. Despite the documentary’s claims, the Spelinspektionen maintains that its data remains secure and that no breach has occurred.

In addition to addressing the data breach allegations, the Spelinspektionen has recently taken action against unlicensed operators. The authority banned Versus Odds BV from operating any of its brands in Sweden, including fortunepanda6.com, artcasino.io, and bet-nox.com.
