Swedish Gambling Revenue Falls Slightly in Q1 2025
Licensed gambling operators in Sweden generated SEK 6.6 billion in net revenue during the first quarter of 2025, representing a 0.9% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. The figures, released by the Swedish Gambling Authority, remain preliminary. The number of individuals self-excluded from gambling through Spelpaus.se also rose by 3.5% compared to the previous quarter.

Online Gambling and Betting See Minor Dip
Commercial online gambling and betting—including online casinos—remained the largest segment of the regulated market, accounting for SEK 4.28 billion in Q1 2025. This marks a slight drop from SEK 4.29 billion in Q1 2024. The segment has seen minor fluctuations quarter-over-quarter, but overall revenue has stayed relatively stable.
The state-run lottery and gaming machines segment reported a quarterly net revenue of SEK 1.32 billion, down from SEK 1.36 billion in Q1 2024. Meanwhile, Casino Cosmopol, Sweden’s state-owned land-based casino chain, generated SEK 26 million, down from SEK 65 million in the same quarter last year. This represents a continued decline, consistent with previous quarters.
Nonprofit Gambling Sees Quarterly Growth
Gambling for public benefit purposes, such as charity lotteries and bingo, reached a combined revenue of SEK 935 million. Charity lotteries alone accounted for SEK 886 million, showing growth compared to the previous quarter, although still below the Q4 2024 peak of SEK 1.13 billion.
By the end of the first quarter of 2025, nearly 125,000 individuals had registered for self-exclusion via Spelpaus.se. This is a 3.5% increase compared to the end of the previous quarter, indicating ongoing use of responsible gambling tools available in the regulated market.
In total, the Swedish licensed gambling market recorded SEK 6.61 billion in net revenue during Q1 2025, a decrease from SEK 7.61 billion in Q4 2024. However, when compared to Q1 2024, the drop remains marginal at 0.9%. All reported figures are based on preliminary data and may be subject to adjustments in future updates.
