Sydney Man Charged Over $2 Million Online Gambling Fraud

A 23-year-old man from Sydney has been charged in connection with an alleged scam that defrauded victims through a bogus online gambling operation. The case is set to be heard at Bankstown Local Court.

Police Allege 14 People Were Defrauded

Police in New South Wales have charged a man in his 20s with running an online gambling scam that allegedly cost 14 people more than $2 million. The man was arrested on Tuesday at Bankstown Police Station and is facing 14 charges tied to fraudulent activity.

The investigation began in August 2023, following reports of suspected deception linked to a company operating as an online betting platform. Authorities believe the setup was used to trick individuals into transferring funds under false pretences.

Multiple Fraud Charges Laid

In a statement released on Tuesday, a police spokesperson confirmed: “Police have been told that 14 victims had lost in excess of $2m in an online gambling scam.”

The accused is now facing a series of serious charges. These include dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, making a false document to obtain financial advantage, and demanding with menace or intent to obtain advantage.

He is expected to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday.
