There has certainly been a significant boom in the popularity for sweepstakes over the last 12 months, particularly across the US market – although other regions such as Canada and Australia are now looking at opportunities within the space.

Sweepstakes offer a really unique combination of skill and entertainment. Players make a deposit in return for ‘fun currencies’, which are specific to each operator and can be used to play a wide range of different games.

This shift towards token currencies has ultimately helped redefine the player experience, placing more of an emphasis on entertainment and prolonged interaction rather than immediate financial returns.

For operators, this approach broadens the appeal beyond their traditional core demographics, enabling brands to engage with those players that are seeking more recreational gaming experiences.

What are some of the key considerations that game developers must keep in mind when developing games for sweepstakes operators? And how is Infingame supporting them with this?

Developing games for sweepstakes casinos presents a completely different set of challenges for studios compared to real-money gaming. One of the biggest differences is that studios must ensure that their games comply with a wholly different set of regulatory requirements – meaning that they must avoid any gambling-related terms such as “bet” or “cash” and instead using language tailored specifically to social casinos.

While sweepstakes casinos in North America operate under a different regulatory framework than real-money gaming, compliance still requires careful navigation – especially given that every state has different requirements relating to sweepstakes.

In states where sweepstakes are authorised, operators must obtain a legal opinion from a qualified attorney confirming that their offering meets the definition of a sweepstakes and not real-money gambling.

We support our partners through this process by leveraging our existing network and expertise. We work closely with operators and are often able to connect them with trusted legal firms, payment providers and financial institutions that specialise in sweepstakes.

We’re also expanding our toolbox of engagement tools for our partners with the addition of new, innovative features. Recently, we successfully launched the first sweepstakes-specific tournaments on our platform, each customised to fit the regulatory and gameplay nuances of this space.

The results have been impressive, with notable increases in user activity and retention. Tournaments have proven to be powerful tools for re-engaging dormant users and encouraging more frequent visits.
