Thunderkick Promotes Johanna Backlund to Head of Marketing
Thunderkick has announced the promotion of Johanna Backlund to Head of Marketing. With nearly two decades of experience and two years at Thunderkick, Backlund will now oversee the studio’s marketing strategy as it aims for continued growth in new and existing markets.
Johanna Backlund Steps into Leadership
Backlund, whose 20-year career includes roles across the gaming industry, brings extensive expertise to her new position. Since joining Thunderkick in 2023, she has played a key role in developing and implementing the company’s marketing strategies.
“January 2025 will mark my second anniversary with Thunderkick, and I am incredibly excited to kick off the new year as Head of Marketing,” said Backlund. “It has been a pleasure to work with such a talented and motivated group of colleagues, and I look forward to facilitating the company’s future success.”
Supporting Strategic Growth
Thunderkick’s Chief Commercial Officer, Svante Sahlström, praised Backlund’s contributions and efficiency in executing campaigns, calling her promotion a natural progression.
“Johanna is an integral part of Thunderkick’s operations, planning and executing campaigns with ruthless efficiency. Having her step into the role of Head of Marketing was a natural progression, and we have no doubt she will continue to deliver exceptional results,” said Sahlström.
Danish Market Expansion with New Licence
The announcement of Backlund’s promotion follows Thunderkick’s recent acquisition of a B2B supplier licence from Denmark’s gambling authority, Spillemyndigheden. This licence allows Thunderkick to continue providing its games to Danish operators until 2029, securing its presence in a key European market.
Wan Kim, Chief Compliance Officer at Thunderkick, commented on the achievement:
“Obtaining a B2B licence has been a focus since the Danish Gambling Authority announced the new regulations earlier this year, and our application’s success emphasises the quality of Thunderkick products and our unwavering commitment to adhering to consistently updating regulations.”
