UK Gambling Commission Reports Record Online Slots Revenue
The UK Gambling Commission announced that gross gambling yield (GGY) reached £1.32 billion in the three months leading up to September 30, with online slots revenue hitting a record high.

Surge in Online Slots Activity
An 11% increase in GGY was primarily driven by a 16% uptick in online slots activity among UK gamblers. Slots GGY climbed to an unprecedented £680 million during this period.
While the average number of spins per session decreased slightly from 147 to 142 compared to the previous year, the number of monthly active accounts grew by 8%. Total bets across all verticals rose by 12% to £25.2 billion.
Players are spending more time on slots, with sessions lasting over an hour increasing by 9% to 10 million. Total slots sessions went up by 18% to 164.7 million, although the average session length remained steady at 17 minutes.
The Gambling Commission noted that one operator reclassified some products into the slots category this quarter, affecting the vertical’s data.
Mixed Trends in Online and Retail Betting
Online real event betting GGY increased by 6% year-on-year to £453 million. Despite a 10% decrease in the number of bets, the rise in GGY suggests that bettors are wagering higher amounts. The average monthly active accounts in this sector also increased by 9%.
Retail betting experienced a slight decline, with GGY falling 1% to £533 million and the total number of bets showing a minimal decrease of 0.1% to 3.1 billion. Over-the-counter bets dropped by 6% to 134 million, leading to an 8% decrease in GGY to £152 million.
Conversely, engagement with self-service betting terminals rose by 9%, indicating a shift in consumer betting preferences.
