Ukraine’s Gambling Regulator Detained Over Alleged Ties to Russian Online Casino

Ivan Rudyi, head of Ukraine’s Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (CRGL), has been detained following allegations of supporting a Russian online casino operating within Ukraine.

Details of the Detention

Ivan Rudyi, who has led the Ukraine’s Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (CRGL) since its establishment in October 2020, faces accusations of facilitating the activities of the casino and other unrelated charges. During a search by authorities, a substance suspected to be narcotics was discovered in his possession.

This comes after a previous warning from Ukraine’s anti-corruption agency earlier this year, which highlighted misconduct involving Rudyi in January. The investigation remains in its initial stages, with further developments anticipated.

Gambling Reforms in Ukraine

In a separate development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a decree earlier this year banning military personnel from gambling. The measure was introduced to address concerns about its impact on morale and national security.
