Unlicensed Lottery Syndicate Busted in Ipoh, Malaysia

Authorities in Perak have arrested four individuals suspected of operating an illegal lottery syndicate, following a series of targeted raids around Ipoh.

Arrests linked to unlicensed lottery sales

Police in Perak apprehended four suspects, including one woman, during three separate raids conducted around the Ipoh district. The individuals, aged between 40 and 70, are believed to be involved in unlicensed public lottery activities linked to a broader syndicate.

Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, Chief of Perak Police, confirmed during a press conference that officers from the Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti-Vice, Gambling, and Secret Societies Division (D7) led the operations.

Authorities seized computers, mobile phones, ten lottery slips, and cash amounting to RM110,119 (around 25,000$) as part of the raids.

Syndicate operating since 2020

According to police, the syndicate is believed to have been active in the Ipoh district since 2020. Investigations revealed that the suspects worked under gambling agents who were directly tied to the organisers behind the operations.

Noor Hisam explained that the agents managed lottery sales via mobile platforms to avoid detection and used their homes to count the proceeds. The case is being investigated under Section 4(a)(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which governs illegal gaming activities.
