YouTube Introduces Stricter Regulations for Online Gambling Content

YouTube is tightening its policies on online gambling content, reinforcing restrictions on how creators can link to gambling platforms. Effective March 19, the update aims to enhance viewer protection, particularly for younger audiences.

Stricter Rules on Gambling-Related Links

Under the revised policy, YouTube will now prohibit any method of directing viewers to uncertified gambling sites or applications. This includes direct URLs, embedded links in text or images, visual elements such as logos, and even verbal references. Previously, such restrictions existed, but the new policy clarifies and expands enforcement.

Content featuring depictions or promotions of online casinos and gambling apps may now be subject to age restrictions. While online sports betting and in-person gambling depictions remain unaffected, videos showcasing online casino activities will be blocked from users under 18 and those who are signed out.

Impact on Gambling Content Creators

The policy change may significantly impact creators focusing on casino-related content, as it limits their ability to promote gambling sites. Additionally, YouTube has emphasized that content promising guaranteed returns may be removed, even if the platform in question is Google-certified.

According to YouTube, these changes reflect its ongoing commitment to fostering a safer environment for users. By reinforcing restrictions on gambling-related content, the platform aims to balance creator support with responsible content guidelines.
