Zimpler Prevails in Court Against Spelinspektionen
The Swedish Court of Appeal has ruled in favor of Zimpler, dismissing an appeal by the Swedish Gambling Authority. This decision supports a prior ruling by the Administrative Court regarding payment services.

Authority’s Initial Injunction
The conflict started in July 2023. The Swedish Gambling Authority ordered Zimpler to cease providing payment services.
These services included BankID to gambling operators lacking a Swedish license. The authority argued Zimpler’s services enabled unlicensed gambling.
This, they claimed, undermined Sweden’s regulated market.
Court’s Rejection of Appeal
Zimpler appealed to the Administrative Court. In May 2024, the court ruled in Zimpler’s favor.
It found the Swedish Gambling Authority lacked legal grounds for the injunction. The regulator then appealed to the Court of Appeal.
On February 7, 2025, the court upheld the previous decision. It rejected the regulator’s appeal.
Implications of the Ruling
The ruling confirms the Swedish Gambling Authority lacked the authority to impose the original order.
Zimpler had already taken proactive steps. In May 2023, they announced plans to end relationships with gambling operators lacking Swedish licenses. This victory follows those steps.
