June Sees Significant Growth in Danish iGaming Revenue

The latest report from Spillemyndigheden, the Danish gambling authority, reveals a substantial increase in gross gambling revenue (GGR) across all four key game sectors: online casino, land-based casino, gaming machines, and betting. The total GGR for June 2024 stood at DKK 703 million (€94.2 million), marking a 37% rise compared to June 2023.

Online Casinos Lead the Market

Online casinos were the top performers in June, contributing over DKK 300 million to the total GGR.

This figure represents a 27.22% increase from the previous year. Overall, online casinos accounted for 43.03% of the total GGR.

Betting Sees Remarkable Growth

Betting activities experienced the most significant year-over-year increase, with GGR rising by 75.71% to DKK 271 million.

Mobile betting was particularly popular, generating 72.98% of the sector’s total GGR.

Steady Gains for Gaming Machines

Gaming machines also reported positive results, with GGR increasing by 6.61% to DKK 97 million.

Most of this revenue came from gaming arcades, which accounted for 80.41% of the sector’s total. Restaurants contributed the remaining 19.59%, highlighting the continued relevance of traditional gaming environments.

Land-Based Casinos Maintain Growth

Land-based casinos saw a modest GGR increase of 7.1%, reaching DKK 32 million. The average daily GGR for these establishments was DKK 1.1 million.

This growth indicates a steady interest in physical casino experiences despite the rise of online gaming alternatives.

Enhanced Regulatory Efforts

In regulatory developments, Spillemyndigheden reported that 50,403 individuals were registered with the ROFUS self-exclusion service as of June 30.

Of these, 33,511 were permanently excluded, while 16,892 were temporarily excluded. Additionally, the authority’s gambling helpline, StopSpillet, handled 202 conversations in June, with half of the related conversations involving players.

New Agreement to Combat Illegal Gambling Advertising

June also saw Spillemyndigheden forming a new agreement with the Danish Consumer Ombudsman and the gambling advertising board Spilreklamenævnet.

This collaboration aims to enhance coordination in efforts against illegal gambling marketing, reflecting the authority’s commitment to maintaining a fair and regulated gaming environment.
