LeoVegas Group Secures Dutch Gaming License and Plans Market Return

The LeoVegas Group has been granted a five-year gaming license for casino, live casino, and sports betting in the Dutch market by the regulatory authority Kansspelautoriteit (KSA).

LeoVegas plans to return to the Dutch market

Operating under its subsidiary 21 Heads Up Limited, LeoVegas plans to resume its services in the Netherlands during the second half of 2023. The company’s CEO, Gustaf Hagman, expressed excitement about the Dutch market’s potential and its importance in their global growth journey: “We are thrilled to look to the future and fully focus on resuming our Dutch journey: the Netherlands has great potential and we look forward to it becoming an important market in our global growth journey.”.

LeoVegas used to provide services in the Netherlands but stopped in preparation for the country’s online gambling regulations. The Dutch online gambling market became regulated in October 2021, which led LeoVegas to apply for a license to operate legally. The licensing process took longer than anticipated, but LeoVegas is now ready to resume operations in compliance with the new regulatory system.

Allegations in Japan

In addition to their Dutch endeavours, LeoVegas has recently faced allegations in Japan concerning the brand ‘Casino Leo,’ which some groups have accused of illegal online gambling. However, MGM Resorts International, the parent company of LeoVegas, denied any involvement with Casino Leo and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible gaming practices.

With the Dutch license in hand, LeoVegas looks forward to re-establishing its presence in the Netherlands and tapping into the market’s growth potential while upholding strict compliance with regulatory requirements.
